As the crow flies, it’s around 400 meters to the beach. It is a little adventure, out the back gate, over an old air-strip, through a cow field and a short stretch of jungle path. It’s interesting, beautiful, and, in the rainy season- can be muddy!

Costa Rica, in general is a safe country to travel, with minimal violent crime and mostly annoying theft.
Having said that, wherever there is a discrepancy between those who have, and those who have not- we find crime. Opportunistic theft happens in our area.
This area is under-touristed which makes it a hidden gem… but at the same time, there are few opportunites for gainful employment and, as a result, the uneducated, poor and bored turn to drugs. Theft pays for the drugs- and usually is a quick snatch and grab, to get them their next hit.
We recommend never leaving anything of value or even an empty bag inside your locked vehicle, unattended. We have an alarm system and cameras to keep an eye on the property.
It is prudent to leave sentimental things of value at home, not bring them on vacation.
Get travel insurance - this is recommended no matter what. For trip cancelation, for medical accidents, for the unexpected- don’t leave home without travel insurance. We use Generali, or World Nomads.
You know yourself best- if you know that you are someone who really prefers the security and safety of an all-inclusive resort, where conditions are controlled, security is high and you just get to switch off completely… then this area isn’t for you.

Black/ dark sand. Patches of rocks, with patches of sand. Long, empty, quiet. Bordered by jungle, coconut trees bending over the sand, macaws screeching and gliding, lots of driftwood, some cobblestones, some rocks, lots of sand.
No sidewalks, few buildings!
In the dry season- crystal blue ocean, simply gorgeous.
In the rainy season- blue days mixed with brown days… depending on the weather. Rivermouths eject silty water after heavy rains- which clears up quickly as the rain subsides.
